Constructed
on a piece of granite from the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills,
the Black Hills Veterans Memorial pays tribute to all those brave veterans
of the five major conflicts in the twentieth century including World
War I, World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War and the Persian
Gulf War. Etched within the granite rock is a message from each of the
Presidents of the United States whose terms occurred during these wars.
This site is used annually during the Memorial Day observance as a forum
for official recognition of those that have bravely served our country.
Erected as a joint venture with the local veteran’s organizations
and the City of Rapid City, the memorial is located in the southwest
corner of Memorial Park near the intersection of Seventh and Omaha Streets.
